Welcome to the Nagengast Brothers. We would like to give
you a brief history behind the name of our company.
The Nagengast Brothers was originally a partnership between two brothers that
was formed south of the Missouri River, in the Rough Breaks country of Montana.
This area was, and is still known as the Elim District, located east of the
town of Fort Benton in Chouteau County. Lewis and Clark explored this area;
Fort Benton was established shortly thereafter and became the headwaters to the
west.
The Nagengast boys, Chris and Martin, were born to homesteaders George and
Josephine Nagengast in 1910 and 1912. Growing up together along with twelve
other brothers, sisters and stepsisters in later years, these brothers were
almost inseparable. Together, they attended Mount St. Charles Boys School in
Helena in the late 1920s. After graduating, Chris and Martin returned home to
assist their father George with the family farming and ranching operation.
In the 1930s, the boys assumed the farming duties from their father and created
a partnership; this was known as the Nagengast Brothers. The brothers were
separated only one time in the 40 years of the partnership. This was during
World War II. Martin joined the Army Air Corps and served in the African and
Italian theaters. Chris remained on the farm, doing his part for the war effort
by raising crops.
After World War II, the brothers then raised two families on the farm. Some of
their children have stayed in this area to continue farming and ranching, while
others have ventured from their farming heritage to successful careers in other
fields.
Chris and Martin taught their children well. They instilled moral values,
dedication to their professions, the importance of conservation, respect to
fellow humanity, and the pride and satisfaction in whatever they did.
The original Nagengast Brothers partnership was dissolved in 1975 with the
passing of Chris. Martin continued to run the farm until his death in 1977. The
relatives of Chris and Martin are still running farming operations today in
Montana.
The newly formed Nagengast Brothers have its roots tied to these two
hard working men and their ideals. We have taken their name in memory of them.
We are dedicated professionals, who take pride and satisfaction in our work and
strive to assist our clients in a fashion that Chris and Martin would be proud.
